Our Story

Local newspaper “Grenz-Echo” add for woolen blankets, duvets in 1955

Established in Saint-Vith (located in the German speaking part of Belgium) since 1835, the ancestors of the current Mr Rom started as master saddlers, a profession that at that time also was specialized in upholstery works like seatings and mattress fillings. After WWII, the town of Saint-Vith was totally devastated and Mr Rom’s grandfather settled in Eupen. A branch of seating productions had been continued by one son, and still is nowadays located in Eupen, and became an industrialized seating production, in its third generation. From 1955 on, another son, Gerd Rom, after a short practice as an architect in Berlin and Munich, took over and developed the business. It became also an interior decoration store but continued to offer the same customized uphostery services then its ancestors.

Gerd Rom and his wife became the first in the French-speaking part of the country to have machines that selected and cleaned the high quality goose downs. They were present at numerous trade exhibitions around Begium – in both the french and flamish speaking part..

In 1989, Mr Rom opened a store in Brussel’s rue de Namur. Many of the items he sold are “homemade” and produced with the same natural materials then fo decades. Since 2003, the business has been continued by his oldest son, also with an architect background. He decided to continue the business in a smaller scale, but still offering the same articles and services to its loyal customers. Often a loyalty that extends as well from one generation to the next, and for which we are very grateful !
